The complicated background to relations between Freemasonry and Monaco  will take a decisive turn on  February 19th when the National Regular Grand Lodge of the Principality of Monaco is due to be consecrated by a college of Grand Installing Officers from the UGLE, the United Grand Lodges of Germany and the GLNF.

Until now, no official recognition (of Freemasonry) was compatible with the concordat linking Monaco and the Vatican, under which the catholic faith is the state religion.

But now, adherence to the European Convention for the Rights of Man, with legislation on rights of the Press, and habeus corpus limitations, have led to the freedom to form Associations. The Brotherhood has not lingered in the background. Declaration of the founding of The National Regular Grand Lodge of the Principality of Monaco was announced on January 2nd, ten days after the new legislation was adopted.

Prince Albert, previously, had disdained the proposal to become Grand Master of a District of the GLNF in Monaco. ”Monegasque it will be, or nothing”.  So now, to be initiated into  The National Regular Grand Lodge of the Principality of Monaco the qualification is Monegasque nationality by birth or by marriage., or by being resident for at least 18 years in the Principality.

The National Regular Grand Lodge of the Principality of Monaco comprises seventy “brothers” belonging to three lodges, led by the trio of Masters, Jean-Pierre Pastor, consul of Monaco at Havana, (Cuba) where his company  has built several luxury blocks, and who becomes Grand Master. Claude Boisson, ex- vice-president of the Monegasque National Assembly, Deputy Grand Master, and  Franck Nicolas, an old  de bobsleigh mate of  Prince Albert’s, Grand Secretary.

The Consecration will be followed by a Gala evening in the Star Salon of Sporting de Monaco @ 250 euros a head. Monegasque to the tip.

Who will represent the GLNF ?

I’ll be there! Disguised as a Grand- something or another, dark glasses, a moustache and escorted by knock-out girl. I’ll put the bill on my expenses account since it is part of my education as an
analyst & advisor on the peregrinations of a Mason in la-la land!
So dreadfully amusing…
