A few days ago LML in English undertook to provide you with some important background articles necessary to understand the reasons for the unprecedented crisis the GLNF finds itself in. This first article attempts to present a timeline of the important events that go as far back as 1997 when the first subtle changes were made to the GLNF statutes and by-laws.

  • December 1992 : Claude CHARBONNIAUD (CC) becomes GM
  • 1997 : first subtle changes to the GLNF statutes and by-laws gradually eliminating the sovereignty of the Lodges and centralising all power in the hands of the GM
  • 2002 Jean-Charles FOELLNER (JCF) becomes GM
  • December 2007 : François STIFANI (FS) becomes GM
  • 4 December 2009 2009 : 35 Members of the Sovereign Grand Committee (SGC) stand up and Claude SEILER (CS)  reads a series of questions concerning the GLNF management.
  • 5 December 2009 : 24 Brethren are called « mutineers » and are suspended.
  • 5 December 2009 : In the afternoon AGM with a « heavy » agenda. FS leaves the Brethren waiting for 90 minutes while he lunches at the “Jules Verne”, renowned restaurant on the Eiffel Tower, with a close friend, GM of an African GL and President of that country. The bill : 27000 euros, sent to « Scribe », masonic bookshop.
  • 17 December 2009 : Révolt of Brethren of the Val de Loire Province creation of the 1st Myosotis, Le Myosotis Ligérien.
  • 10 to 20 January 2010 : creation of numerous Myosotis right throughout  France.
  • 3 February 2010 : Ordonnance 1249 which removes Val de Loire Province, more than 1500 Brethren.
  • 6 March 2010 : Call upon the brethren by FMR – Myosotis group.
  • 23 March 2010 : Teleguided computer attack on all Myosotis blogs and on Overblog
  • 25 March 2010 : Rejection of all the AGM resolutions and call for FS’ resignation. FS stops the meeting.
  • 9 June 2010 : National Council of Discipline, the « shame » trial
  • 6 July 2010 : GLNF, suspicion of illegal seizure of an inheritance
  • 22 September 2010 : 1st letter from the A&ASR, the Jurisdiction gets angry.
  • 30 September 2010 : GLNF attacks FMR pour disloyal competition and claims almost 3,5M€ in compensation.
  • 16 October 2010 : Multi-location AGM with dictatorial methods and numerous manipulations
  • 2 November 2010 :  Court case to cancel the AGM of 16 October.
  • 8 November 2010 : 1st call from French Grand Chapter.
  • 18 November 2010 : GLNF loses its disloyal competition case against FMR
  • 3 December 2010 : Joint communiqué from the 3 juridictions RSR, FR and A&ASR.
  • 7 December 2010 : Paris Court annuls multi-location AGM of 16 October.
  • 7 December 2010 : Call from the Royal Arch
  • 10 December 2010 : 2nd joint declaration from the 3 juridictions RSR, FR and A&ASR
  • 13 December 2010 : GL of Mark Masons joins the struggle.
  • 15 December 2010 : Creation of LML in English, an English language Myosotis
  • 15 December 2010 : GLs of Luxembourg, Belgium et Suisse Alpina write to GLNF.
  • 5 January 2011 : Loss of appeal by FS, exécution of  7 December judgement is maintained
  • 11 January 2011 : Resignation by FS, President / Grand Master, Députy Grand Master JC TARDIVAT (JCT) and the GLNF administration board
  • 25 January 2011 : At FMR’s  request the court names an ad ‘hoc administrator for the GLNF.
  • 4 February 2011 : Joint communiqué by the 3 Jurisdictions on the vacancy of the post of GM of the GLNF
  • 5 February 2011 : ASSISES for the Refoundation of GLNF  by FMR – Myosotis in  Montreuil, Paris.
  • 11 February 2011 : Beginning of the revolt on Réunion Island, followed by Guadeloupe.
  • 12 February 2011 : Opening of the  Livre Blanc de la Refondation.
  • 19 February 2011 : Consécration of the GL of Monaco, a slap in the face for FS who persists in pretending to be GM even though he is no longer President. He cannot take part in festivities.
  • 20 February 2011 : La Perle de Lumière Lodge l’Orient in Alès proclaims its independence and its re-adoption of the 1986 statutes.
  • 23 February 2011 : FS decides to cancel  the SGC meeting to await the appeal decision concerning the 16 October AGM cancellation
  • 24 February 2011 : Call for active resistance.
  • 2 March 2011 : Interview between Maître Legrand and the Bâtonnier Teitgen. Beginning of the ongoing tale of the cash reserves that “disappeared”.
  • 4 March 2011 : Jean MURAT (JM) meets Me Legrand and says she complains she is unable to obtain the accounts books. 3 PGMs give a catastrophic account of the situation in their Provinces.
  • 7 March 2011 : Unsigned communiqué from Me Legrand. She demands the dues payments before the end of March.
  • 10 March 2011 : Semper Fi obtains the accounts the administrator cannot and publishes them..
  • 17 March 2011 : FS is a voluntary participant in the appeal procedure. 17 Lodges rebel in the Roussillon Cerdagne area. Me Legrand receives thousands of complaint letters from the Brethren.
  • 28 March 2011 : Alain JUILLET (AJ) writes to FS offering him an « honourable way out ».
  • 1 April 2011 : FS refuses AJ’s offer and asks him to remain in his current functions.
  • 5 April 2011 : Cases presented before the Appeals Court, another 3 months won for FS for the decision will not be brought down before 24 June. 15 Brethren from the Riviera, all close to FS, make voluntary interventions at the last minute.
  • 7 April 2011 3 major items of information become public
    • Maître Legrand takes charge of the Disciplinary Council
    • TheWagram apartment is put on sale and S.A. SCRIBE will be sold.
    • 8 PGMs break away from FS, no longer recognise him as GM and place themselves under the authority of   Maître Legrand.
  • From 8 to 10 April 2011 : 12 PGMs break away from FS and place themselves under the authority of Maître Legrand.
  • 9 April 2011 : Meeting of Mysostis moderators in Tours to plan the future and work on the synthesis of the Livre Blanc.
  • 11 April 2011 : Letter of 8 April from AJ to FS is made public. It tells of the numerous letters from FS to the French Presidency including a request for the Légion d’Honneur. The possibility of criminal charges arising from the audits is evoked
  • 12 April 2011 : The GLNF spokesman denouces a «suspicious » contract between SCRIBE and a close collaborator of FS. The SCRIBE MD confirms the allegations.
  • 13 April 2011 : FS appears to throw in the towel announcing he will place his mandate in the hands of the SGC on 27 June.
  • 14 April 2011 : FMR Myosotis calls for unity behind Me Legrand. JCT who resigned on 11 January is reinstated and replaces AJ in charge of reforms.
  • 22 April 2011 : 17 Lodges from Cerdagne Roussillon area supported by  20 OPs declare they no longer recognise FS as GM. Déclaration de 10 PGMs et AGMs do the same. JCT repudiates FS who names Alain CANO (AC) DGM.
  • 26 April 2011 : Impossible to count the number of Lodges in official revolt against FS
  • 3 May 2011 : Open letter from JCT accusing FS of sabotaging his refoundation mission by naming new PGMs in place of those who have rebelled.
  • 4 May 2011 : Parisian Brethren occupy the Pisan Grand Temple, obliging FS to swear in a new DGM, a new AGM and 5 PGMs in secret in his office.
  • 5 May 2011 : Open letter from Paul STUDNIA (PS), MD of SCRIBE, severely criticising FS
  • 7 May 2011 : Stinging reply from FS to PS accusing him of vested interests
  • 8 May 2011 : FS denounces the decrees linking GLNF with the 3 Jurisdictions whom he accuses of being the originators of the crisis. He suspends the 3 Presidents and forbids their presence at all masonic assemblies
  • 9 May 2011 : 2 Chapters of 2 Jurisdictions are forbidden access to the Temple at Cagnes sur Mer
  • 12 May 2011 : FS sacks the Grand Secretary and the Grand Orator
  • 13 May 2011 : The number of mutineer PGMs rises to 15 who regroup with JCT
  • 14 May 2011 : FS attends the World Conference of Regular GLs as a simple observer.
  • 17 May 2011 : All 10 members of the Council of Elders resign in a block.
  • 18 May 2011 : The GLs of Germany (5), Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland begin a procedure of non-recognition of the GLNF
  • 23 May 2011 : The GL of Turkey suspends recognition of the GLNF management but maintains a welcome for GLNF Brethren. This was a first, a GL making the distinction between the management and the Brethren.
  • 25 May 2011 : Maître Legrand obtains the prolongation of her mandate until 24 January 2012 but doesn’t disclose the information until  25 July
  • 3 June 2011 : Publication of minutes of the 24 May meeting between Me Legrand and FMR Myosotis announces the forwarding of an important file to the public prosecutor concerning GLNF management and certain “vague” practices.
  • 5 June 2011 : Publication of the Livre Blanc of FMR Myosotis for the refoundation of the GLNF.
  • 8 June 2011: UGLE invites its members to distance themselves from the GLNF. The GL of Massachusetts withdraws its recognition
  • 17 June 2011 : At a hastily organised AGM of OAF the administration board is revoked ad nutum par 96,35% of the voters.
  • 18 June 2011 : GLs of Suisse Alpina and Minnesota withdraw recognition
  • 21 June 2011 : Regular Grand Lodge of Italy no longer recognises GLNF
  • 23 juin 2011 : FS writes to GLs all over the world accusing the « agitators » including the 3 Jurisdictions of being solely responsible for the crisis.
  • 24 June 2011 : The Appeals Court decision is postponed to 1 July. FS postpones the SGC meeting (where he was to return his mandate) to a later date.
  • 28 June 2011 : The 3 Jurisdictions write to the GLs all over the world denouncing the allegations made by FS on 23 June.
  • 1 July 2011 : Following a procedural error by the “15 last minute voluntary participants” the Appeals Court is unable to bring down its decision which is postponed until 8 September
  • 1er July 2011 : FMR Myosotis invites theLodges to no longer recognise the GLNF management in masonic terms and declares the desire to be both regular and recognised without leaving the GLNF
  • 13 July 2011 : The ad ‘hoc administrator demands the payment of a contribution equivalent to one year’s dues by 19 July. All Brethren who have not paid for 2010 – 2011 would be immediately struck off the GLNF register
  • 19 July 2011 : GLs of England, Ireland and Scotland suspend relations with the  GLNF
  • 21 July 2011 : By e-mail FS sends a letter date 14 July to UGLE announcing the GLNF suspends relations !!! No-one believes this ante-dated letter.
  • Birth of the Union des Loges Régulières de France (ULRF), an initiative by a Brother from Tours.
  • 26 July 2011 : Maître Legrand must imperatively organise the AGM concerning the accounts closed 31 August 2010.before 31 October. What about the AGM for the accounts closed 31 august 2009 ?
  • 28 July 2011 : Important meeting of clarification between Maître Legrand, FMR – Myosotis, AJ and the auditors.
  • 2 August 2011 : Supreme Council for France of A&ASR, in agreement with the 2 other Jurisdictions, calls for support for all actions enabling the Brethren of all Jurisdictions to pursue their labours in regularity and recognition.
  • 5 August 2011 : Faced with too much opposition from the Lodges of his Province the Septimanie PGM throws in the towel.
  • 12 August 2011: CC Past GM declares : « I want FS to depart.”
  • 18 August 2011 : GL of Nova Scotia (Canada) suspends recognition
  • 20 August 2011 : GLs of the Dominican Republic and Finland withdraw recognition.
    Birth of the House of Regular masons of the French Rite(MMRRF).
  • 20 August2011 : AJ calls for union and once again asks FS to resign
    The Conference of African GLs expresses concern about the GLNF situation.
  • 22 August 2011 : FS confirms his determination to remain in office and to undertake reforms.
  • 30 August 2011 : GL of Denmark suspends recognition
  • 4 September 2011 : MMRRF joins ULRF, now more than 600 Lodges refuse the authority of the current GLNF management.
  • 5 September 2011 : Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council of A&ASR resigns from GLNF but remains member of UGLE
  • 7 September 2011 : Constitution of the Assembly of Regular masons of the A&ASR which joins the ULRF.
  • 10 September 2011 : Publication of the list of members of the Provisional Administration Board of the ULRF
  • 14 September 2011 : UGLE confirms its suspension of relations with the GLNF. The Duke of kent, GM of the UGLE confirms his support of the Grand Chancellor and refuses to meet FS who wrote to him as “Brother Edward” !!!
  • 18 September 2011 : The statutes of the ULRF are published
  • 19 September 2011 : FMR creates a pool of brethren who are lawyers to defend Brethren suspended or struck off illegitilmately.
  • 22 September 2011 : Maître Legrand is questioned by the Financial Division of the Judicial Police
  • 23 September 2011 : GL of Sweden suspends recognition of the GLNF. Also GLs of Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Iowa and Norway.
  • 25 September 2011 : Maître Legrand has not provided the documents she had promised, ULRF, JM, JCT, AJ, and Serge TOFFALINI (ST) jointly sign a letter refusing to attend the meeting Maître Legrand hoped to organise for 28 September
  • 27 September 2011 : Under orders from Me Legrand a security firm filters GLNF members entering "their" Pisan building. Those who have not paid the "illegal" exceptional contribution are refused entry.
  • 29 September 2011 : A 65 year old Assistant Provincial Grand Master, up to date with his dues, refuses to show his GLNF card to a security gorilla at the Pisan entrance. He is hurled to the ground and dragged to the exit by the ankles. A formal complaint is lodged with the Police.
